Abstract

This research is aimed to find the similarities and differences between English and Indonesian Noun Formation. The type of this research is qualitative research. The data of this research are the noun derivations in English and Indonesian taken from the Jakarta Post and Suara Merdeka newspaper from May 24th -30th, 2008.In collecting data, the writer uses documentation method. The writer gathers the data by reading Jakarta Post and Suara Merdeka Newspaper, especially in the Your Letter and Surat Pembaca column attentively and taking notes. The data then analyzed by using contrastive analysis. The result of the study shows that the similarity of English and Indonesian noun formation is both English and Indonesian noun formation use suffix addition to form new noun. The differences between English and Indonesian noun formation is that English noun formation is formed by prefix, suffix, and confix addition, whereas Indonesian Noun Formation can be formed by prefix, infix, suffix, confix addition.
