Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus is a disease caused by autoimmune factors, heredity, age, obesity and unhealthy lifestyle such as lack of exercise. The incidence of diabetes mellitus in Indonesia ranks fourth highest in the world at 8.4 million cases. Diabetes mellitus if not promptly treated can lead to various complications including damage to the eyes, kidneys, heart and extremities and can cause death. Objective: To implement nursing care in patients with diabetes mellitus includes assessment, intervention, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care. Methods: The method used was case study approach that was defined as a scientific method to collect data, analyze the data and draw conclusions. Results: Diagnosis which appeared on the case was imbalance nutrition: less than body requirements, less of fluid volume risk, and changes in visual sensory perception. After 3x24 hours nursing care, the results obtained were nutrition requirement was met, less volume of fluid did not occur, damage to the eye was not getting worse. Conclusion: In doing nursing care, imbalance nutrition: less than body requirements and less of fluid volume risk is resolved. Changes in visual sensory perception problem were partially resolved and thus required further treatment and cooperation with other medical team. Patient and family was indispensable for the success of nursing care.
