Abstract
This research is conducted to describe the implementation of teaching vocabulary using direct method to the fourth year students of SD Muhammadiyah Program Khusus Kotabarat Surakarta and the problems faced by teacher and students in teaching-learning vocabulary using direct method. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative research. The researcher collects the data by observing, document, and conducting interviews with the teacher and students. The results of the research study shows that (1) the implementation teaching vocabulary using direct method covers a) the instructional design, b) classroom management, c) the syllabus, d) the roles of teacher and students in teaching-learning vocabulary using direct method, e) classroom activities (2) the problem faced by teacher are : time allotment, the different capability of the students, and the students are not diligent at home, 3). students problem are, namely : nervousness, spelling and unconfident.
