Abstract

The objectives of the study are (1) to describe the implementation of teaching Vocabulary using short story telling and its influence to the students’ vocabulary mastery, and (2) to find out the kinds of problem faced by the teacher when she taught English by using the short story telling. The writer formulates the problems in form of Action Research as follows : “How the implementation of teaching is and what kinds of problem faced by the teacher are when teaching English by using short story telling”. The research was done in SDN I Kismoyoso Ngemplak Boyolali. As the sample, the writer took 41 students of the fifth year students. Based on the data analysis, the writer describe the implementation of teaching Vocabulary using short story telling. The teacher uses copies passage as media. The writer gave the copy of short story to the students. The writer read and translated word by word with slowly and loudly. The writer conducted treatment to the students in the form of the exercises. The writer had been done two cycles. The problems found in cycle 1 had been solved. in cycle 2. The process of teaching learning English make the students enjoyed the English lesson especially vocabulary. The writer also found that is the problems faced by the teacher when she taught English using short story telling technique are that : (1) the students always keep silent when they learn English, (2) two or three of the students always read story slowly, (3) the students are always afraid if asked to answer the questions from the writer, and (4) sometimes the students are very noisy when teacher teaches English. The conclusion is that the implementatio n of teaching English using short story telling in SDN I Kismoyoso Ngemplak Boyolali is very effective. The use of teaching and aids using this technique is very appropriate and helpful to enrich students’ vocabulary mastery.
