Abstract
The aims of this research are to identify the forms and the functions of English verbal construction in feminism articles based on traditional approach. Feminism article is a piece of writing about movement directed at changing existing power relationship between men and women. Traditional approach is an approach to describe the relation among a word or a group of words in the sentence. This research is descriptive qualitative type. The data are sentences containing verbal construction. Verbal constructions are words formed from a verb but used as a different part of speech. They are collected from feminism articles by using documentation method. She applies syntactical study in analyzing the data. The result of the data analysis shows that there are three kinds of verbal construction, namely: participle, gerund, infinitive, and each of them have two forms: active and passive forms. According to the form of participle, the writer finds 10 sentences including active participle, 1 sentence including passive participle. Related to the form of gerund, the writer finds 20 sentences including active gerund, 1 sentence including passive gerund. Related to the form of infinitive, the writer finds 22 sentences including active infinitive and 3 sentences including passive infinitive. The function of participle as adjective, the writer finds in 11 sentences. The function of gerund as subject, the writer finds in 6 sentences. The use of gerund after possessive noun or possessive adjective, the writer finds in 3 sentences. The function of gerund as subjective complement, the writer finds in 3 sentences. The function of gerund as appositive, the writer finds in 1 sentence. The use of gerund after the verb + preposition, the writer finds in 1 sentence. The use of gerund after prepositions, the writer finds in 6 sentences. The use of gerund after certain verbs, the writer finds in 1 sentence. The function of infinitive as subjective complement, the writer finds in 4 sentences. The function of infinitive as objective complement, the writer finds in 4 sentences. The function of infinitive as complement to a verb, the writer finds in 3 sentences. The function of infinitive as object to a verb, the writer finds in 5 sentences. The function of infinitive as adverb, the writer finds in 3 sentences. The function of infinitive as adjective, the writer finds in 6 sentences.
