Abstract
This research paper is mainly intended to find out whether the listening materials of the English course book for grade VII of Junior High School “Smart Steps, the Smartest Way to Learn English” published by Ganeca Exact Publisher is compatible with listening materials in the School - Based Curriculum or KTSP or not. The data are listening materials in the English course book mentioned. The data are collected by documenting listening materials in the English course book with in the School - Based Curriculum. The data are listening materials in the English course book mentioned. The data are collected by documenting listening materials in the English course book with the School – Based Curriculum. Data are taken from English course book for grade VII of Junior High School based on the School – Based Curriculum or KTSP entitled “Smart Steps, the Smartest Way to Learn English” written by Ali Akhmadi and Ida Safrida, published by Ganeca Exact Publisher. The result of data analysis shows that the quality of listening materials in the course book is bad range because based on internal percentage of Schema of Quality Classification (0-39%). The score of percentage this point is only 37,5 %. Among 88 standard competencies in the School -Based Curriculum there are only 33 standard competencies that are presented with listening materials is the English course book, they are introducting oneself/others; greeting people whom their known/unknown before; asking and giving information; expression of apologizig; expression of politeness; expresion like and dislike; asking for clarification; giving instruction and command; and also asking and fact. And although the 88 standard competencies present listening materials as suggested by the School - Based Curriculum or KTSP, not all of the listening aspects are presented.
