Abstract

This research paper aims at describing the implementation of teaching vocabulary using words tree to the fourth grade of SDN 3 Glagah, Jatinom, Klaten, and the students’ response to it. The researcher takes the fourth grade which consists of fourteen students as the subject of the study. The data derive from event, document, and informant. To collect the data the researcher does observation, interview, and test (pre- test and post- test). This research is Classroom Action Research. There are four cycles conducted in which each cycle consist of four steps namely planning, acting, observing and reflecting. It is found at cycle I that the students still get difficulty to memorize the vocabulary and to give response. In cycle II until the last cycle, there is improvement on the students’ ability to memorize the words, the students’ ability to write the correct spelling, as well as students’ involvement In this research the researcher implement the use of interesting form of words tree combined with visual aids. The result of the research shows that: (1) the use of words tree technique can improve the students’ vocabulary mastery, it is shown by the improvement of the students score 9, 29 point. In addition, there are 78, 5% of students that increase their vocabulary mastery (2) the implementation of words tree is appropriates with teaching vocabulary principles (3) the students’ response to words tree is good, it can be seen from their enthusiasm and involvement in teaching learning process.
