Abstract
The objectives in this research are to describe the kind of task, to analyze the aspect of task and to know the principle of designing task used in the English textbook entitled Look Ahead 2 for the second year student of senior high school in 2006/2007 academic year. This research is a descriptive qualitative research that in analyzing task the writer uses method of documentary analysis by checklist the data. The data are the task in English textbook that taken from Look Ahead 2. The result analysis for the type of task is the type of task that is available in the textbook entitled Look Ahead 2 are question and answer, dialogues and role-plays, matching activities, communication strategies, pictures and pictures stories, puzzles and problems, discussions and decisions. For the analysis aspect of task can be founded that the aspect of task had been presented in this textbook; this can be proved from the three questions to analyze the aspect of task on textbook, and the result is founded 37 aspect of task from 52 aspect of task in the theory. The principle of task in this textbook are classifying task, grading task and sequencing task is also presented. The principle of classifying task used the pedagogic classification, the principle of grading task is consider to the activity factors to grading task, the last principle that is sequencing task used the principle of content based units to sequence the task.
