Abstract
The objectives of this study are to describe: (1) the form of condensation strategy in subtitling, (2) the reasons of the subtitler in using condensation strategy, (3) the equivalence and non equivalence between source language and target language in subtitling of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl film. The writer wants to analyze one of the strategies that the interpreter uses in subtitling based on the translation rules. The writer employs descriptive qualitative method. By this method, the writer uses the subtitling of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl film as the data source, and the data are Indonesian simple sentence. As the comparison, there are also data from the manuscript in English. The method of data collection is documentation method. The technique is descriptive technique. The results of the research show that; first, there are 5 types of sentences which were used by the subtitler in the subtitling. They are positive and negative declarative sentence, positive and negative imperative sentence, and positive interrogative sentence. Second, all of the subtitling which had already condensed by the subtitler are readable. Third, there are four subtitling which are not equivalence.
