Abstract

Generally, this paper aims to describe about promoting students’ vocabulary using games for disabled learners in SMP YPSLB Surakarta in 2007 academic year. For the specific purpose, this paper describes about the implementation of teaching vocabulary using games, to describe the effective ways to teach vocabulary for disabled learners, to describe the problem faced by the teacher and the students in teaching learning process of vocabulary. The object to be analyzed was the result of the classroom action research implementation. The writer uses descriptive qualitative research in the form of classroom action research. The data are taken from the result of the implementation of classroom action research which was arranged based on the observation that was done before. The writer implemented three cycles, which each cycle consisted of three steps that were planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The procedures of classroom action research were applied to the five students’ member of second year of SMP YPSLB Surakarta in 2007/2008 academic year. The school documents and the result of teacher’s interview were also used to add the information about the students’ condition. In general, by the result of the classroom action research, the writer can describe the implementation of teaching students’ vocabulary using games for disabled learners. For the specific result of classroom action research, from the implementation procedures, the writer finds that the use of game and situation class arranging support the effectiveness of teaching vocabulary for disabled learners. Considered to some factors, most of the students get difficulty in memorizing the given material. The teacher sometime also gets difficulty to get the students’ concentration while he teaches the vocabularies.
