Abstract

The Tasikmadu Sugar Factory area in Karanganyar is a cultural heritage site from the Mangkunegara IV era (1871), currently being revitalized into a heritage tourism area called De Tasikmadu Heritage. However, the eastern part of this complex remains suboptimally developed, with existing buildings (warehouse and administration building) left abandoned without productive functions. Meanwhile, Karanganyar Regency has significant potential in the creative economy and requires spaces for the younger generation to create and collaborate. This design aims to revitalize the eastern area of De Tasikmadu Heritage by establishing a Youth Community Hub that integrates conservation and creative economy functions through an adaptive reuse approach. The design method employs a descriptive qualitative approach through field observation, literature study, and site analysis. The results show that the existing warehouse building is transformed into a creative core accommodating co-working spaces, maker spaces, and galleries, while the administration building is adapted into a welcome center. The application of adaptive reuse principles includes identification of significant elements, minimal and reversible intervention, harmonious contrast, legible historical narrative, and spatial flexibility. The design concept is "Industrial Heritage Living Lab," where the sugar factory's industrial heritage becomes a living laboratory for youth creativity. This design is expected to serve as a model for heritage area revitalization integrated with youth creative economy empowerment.
