Abstract

Background: Adolescent girls are vulnerable to nutritional issues due to rapid growth, busy schedules, and an intense focus on body image. Imbalances in macronutrient intake (energy, carbohydrates, protein, and fat) during this phase pose a risk of undernutrition or overnutrition, which can impact future reproductive health. Objective: To determine the relationship between macronutrient intake and nutritional status among female students at the SMP IT Al Huda Wonogiri Islamic Boarding School. Methods: This was an analytical quantitative study using a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 69 female students from SMP IT Al Huda Wonogiri, selected via proportional stratified random sampling. Data on energy, protein, fat, and carbohydrate intake were collected through interviews using a 2x24-hour dietary recall form. Nutritional status data were obtained through anthropometric measurements (weight and height), calculated using the BMI-for-age (BMI/U) index, categorized via z-scores, and compared against nutritional adequacy standards. Data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation test. Results: 62.3% of the students had normal nutritional status; the proportions of students with "good" intake levels for energy, protein, fat, and carbohydrates were 18.8%, 20.3%, 31.9%, and 2.9%, respectively. There was a significant relationship between protein intake and nutritional status (p=0.013), whereas the relationships involving energy, fat, and carbohydrates were not significant (p=0.089, 0.111, and 0.276, respectively). Recommendations: Students are encouraged to maintain their current normal nutritional status by establishing regular eating habits, prioritizing the consumption of high-protein side dishes, and avoiding the habit of skipping meals.
