Abstract
The purpose of this study is to describe the elements of fiction, classify the characters' emotions, and utilize them as alternative literature teaching materials in high school. The method applied in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with a literary psychology approach. The research data in the form of sentences and paragraphs that contain elements of novel fiction and describe the various emotions of the characters in the novel Nadira, as well as the results of interviews with informants. The data source for this research is the novel Nadira The work of Leila S. Chudori and informants. The data collection techniques used were literature study and in-depth interviews. The validity of the data in this study was source triangulation. The data analysis technique used in this study was semiotic reading which includes heuristic reading and hermeneutic reading. The results of the study indicate that there are elements that build the novel including theme, characters and characterization, plot and setting that show their relationship in forming a meaningful story unit, so that it can represent the theme of loss with its various complexities. The character analysis in the novel Nadira found seven categories of emotional classification with a total of 34 data. This emotional classification can be used as an alternative literary teaching material. This utilization is based on its usefulness in supporting literary appreciation activities, especially in learning to write short stories, so that students have concrete examples related to the development of the storyline and character of the characters.
