Abstract

The point machine is a critical component in railway signaling systems, ensuring the safety of travel routes. This study aims to evaluate the electrical performance of Siemens NSE-type electric point machines operating at the East Yard of Cepu Station, within the jurisdiction of UPT Resor Sintelis 4.11 Cepu. The evaluation involved analyzing operating voltage (V) and operating current (I), calculating apparent power (S) during Normal Working Relay (NWR) and Reverse Working Relay (RWR) operations, and comparing these values against the motor's nameplate specifications. A descriptive quantitative research method was employed, utilizing primary data collected directly in the field during preventive maintenance activities in June 2026 across 11 point machine units. The results indicate that the actual operating current for all units fell within a safe range (5,6 A-6,1 A), with the highest load level reaching only 65,59% of the nominal nameplate capacity (9,3 A). Actual operating voltages ranged from 86,2 V-112,2 V. A voltage drop of up to 21,6% below the nominal value (110 V) was observed in the unit located at the far end of the yard (W23C) due to the length of the supply cable; however, the motor was still able to generate sufficient torque. Calculated apparent power ranged from 510,72 VA-655,80 VA, with a peak real power consumption of 524,64 Watts (assuming a power factor of 0,8) well below the manufacturer's maximum design power capacity (720 Watts). Based on this evaluation, it is concluded that the electrical performance of the 11 NSE point machine units at the Cepu Station East Yard is sound and reliable; they operate within design capacity limits without experiencing overload, thereby optimally supporting long-term railway operational safety.
