Abstract

Asphalt Concrete-Wearing Course (AC-WC) mixtures are required to maintain high performance under traffic loading and environmental conditions. This study reviews the effects of nanomaterials and lime on asphalt mixture performance through a literature review. Data were obtained from journal articles and previous studies concerning nano carbon, Carbon Nanotubes (CNT), graphene, hydrated lime, and lime-based fillers. The literature was grouped according to additive type and descriptively analyzed by comparing Indirect Tensile Strength (ITS), Marshall, and moisture-resistance results. The review indicates that nanomaterials can improve tensile strength and mixture stability up to an optimum content, while excessive dosage may reduce performance due to particle agglomeration. Hydrated lime and nano hydrated lime also show potential to improve resistance to moisture-related damage. Differences in testing methods among studies limit direct comparison, indicating the need for laboratory testing using a consistent testing framework.
