Abstract

The Dieng Plateau is one of the regions in Indonesia characterized by a unique volcanic geological landscape. The presence of various geological phenomena such as active craters, volcanic lakes, and mountainous landforms provides significant potential for the development of geotourism in the area. However, the current tourism activities in Dieng are still largely dominated by conventional recreational tourism, where the educational aspect of the region’s geological richness has not been optimally conveyed to visitors. This condition indicates the need for a facility that can integrate educational, interpretative, and recreational functions in a more structured manner. The objective of this design project is to propose a Geological Interpretation Center in the Dieng area that serves as an educational facility and interpretative medium for visitors to better understand the geological phenomena present in the region. The design approach is conducted through literature studies on geotourism, interpretation centers, and principles of educational and contextual architecture, which are then combined with an analysis of the physical and environmental characteristics of the Dieng area. The outcome of this design is expected to create a facility that functions not only as an information center but also as an interactive learning space that responds to its natural surroundings. Through this approach, the Geological Interpretation Center is expected to support the development of geotourism in the Dieng area while enhancing public awareness of the importance of geological heritage.
