Abstract

Alun-Alun Lor Boyolali is a public space located within the Boyolali Regency government office complex, which includes the Public Service Center (MPP), the Housing and Settlement Agency (Disperkim), and the Youth, Sports, and Tourism Agency (Disporapar). Current conditions indicate that public space activities are still limited to specific times, particularly morning sports, while the government office complex is active during business hours. These differences in timing and the nature of the activities mean that the functions of the public space and the government office complex have not yet been optimally integrated. This design aims to create a layout that connects the formal functions of the government office complex with the informal functions of the public space through a sustainable architectural approach. The design process was conducted through field observations, documentation, literature reviews, and case studies. The design resulted in the concept of “Integration of Activities through Active Transition Spaces” via a transitional plaza, pedestrian connectivity, recreational and sports facilities, MSMEs, and green open spaces. Principles of sustainable architecture are applied through shade-providing vegetation, permeable materials, natural lighting and ventilation, solar panels, and enhanced pedestrian connectivity. This layout is designed to create a public space that is more active, comfortable, adaptive, and integrated.
