Abstract

In the context of speeches, deixis plays a crucial role in the successful transmission of messages from speaker to listener; thus, the precise choice of words facilitates message delivery to the audience. This study aims to identify the types of deictic words or phrases and analyze their usage in the speech delivered by President Prabowo Subianto during the 2025 Pancasila Day commemoration, as well as to assess its relevance to Indonesian language instruction for Grade VIII junior high school students. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach with a document study design, the research gathered data through observation and documentation methods, subsequently analyzing them using referential matching and content analysis. The findings reveal the presence of five types of deixis across a total of 158 data points: personal deixis (126 instances), temporal deixis (14 instances), spatial deixis (4 instances), discourse deixis (14 instances), and social deixis (67 instances). Furthermore, the study is suitable for use as teaching material for speech text units in Phase D (Grade VIII junior high school or equivalent), as it aligns with the prevailing 2025 Merdeka Curriculum.
