Abstract
The slum area in Bawu Village, Kemusu Subdistrict, Boyolali Regency exhibits various problems based on seven key indicators: building conditions, neighborhood roads, clean water supply, drainage systems, wastewater management, waste management, and fire safety—all of which contribute to poor environmental quality and low residential comfort for the community. This study aims to design livable housing as a solution for addressing slum areas using an environmentally friendly architectural approach integrated with Islamic architectural values in Bawu Village. The method used is quantitative descriptive analysis through the collection of primary and secondary data, field observations, and analysis based on applicable technical standards and regulations. The results of the analysis serve as the basis for developing design concepts at both the macro and micro scales, including the reconstruction of substandard homes, improving accessibility, providing basic infrastructure, and developing green open spaces to serve as water absorption areas and spaces for social interaction. At the building scale, residences were designed to meet habitability standards through the optimization of natural lighting and ventilation, the use of local materials, and efficient utility systems, while also balancing public and private spaces in accordance with the principles of Islamic architecture. In addition, supporting facilities have been designed, such as a 3R-based waste management facility that utilizes renewable energy and a waste recycling creativity center that can boost the local economy. The design is expected to improve the quality of the environment, public health, and community well-being, as well as create a sustainable, well-organized settlement that aligns with social and spiritual values.
