Abstract

This research study how resistance emerges as a response to the exploitation of the working class by the ruling class through a Marxist perspective. This research employs a qualitative method, with data collected through close reading of The Hunger Games novel 2008 by Suzanne Collins, followed by identifying and categorizing relevant textual evidence which was analyzed using Marxist theory. The findings reveal how the ruling class represented by the Capitol, exploits the working class represented by the Districts, and how resistance develops as a consequence of such oppression. Three major aspects are identified: exploitation by the Capitol to the Districts, the use of false consciousness and fear as mechanisms of control, and the emergence of class consciousness due to shared suffering as a form of resistance. These findings suggest that continues oppression can lead to the development of collective awareness, which eventually lead to resistance against exploited power structures.
