Abstract

Waste management issues in Indonesia, particularly in Kudus Regency, have increased significantly due to population growth and limited management systems. Tanjungrejo Landfill, as the only final waste disposal facility in Kudus Regency, has exceeded its capacity and still applies an open dumping system, causing environmental pollution and public health impacts. This study aims to design an eco-park area based on a material recovery facility (MRF) as an integrated, ecological, and sustainable waste management system. A qualitative method was applied through observation, interviews, and precedent studies, followed by design synthesis. The results show that the implementation of MRF enables sorting, recovery, and processing of materials, reducing residual waste while increasing resource value. The integration with the eco-park concept transforms the site into a green open space that accommodates recreational and environmental educational activities. The design concept emphasizes integrated zoning between MRF system, landfill gas zones, and eco-park public spaces using an ecological design approach based on site analysis. This design is expected to provide an alternative strategy for transforming conventional landfills into more sustainable waste management systems.
