Abstract

Background: Cardiovascular fitness is an important component of overall health and can be assessed through VO₂max as well as total cholesterol levels as part of the lipid profile. Low levels of physical activity in young adults have the potential to affect cardiovascular fitness. Accordingly, tThis study was conducted to investigate the relationship between total cholesterol levels and cardiovascular fitness. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design on 70 young adults aged 20–39 years in a campus environment with purposive sampling. Total cholesterol levels were measured through blood tests, while cardiovascular fitness was assessed using the 12-Minute Cooper Test to obtain VO₂Max values. Results: The results showed a positive relationship between cholesterol levels and physical fitness (VO₂ max) but with a low correlation strength (r = 0.346; p = 0.003). Conclusion: A significant association was found between cardiovascular fitness and total cholesterol levels in young adults. These findings indicate that the higher the total cholesterol level, the lower the VO₂max value.
