Abstract
Rapid urban development has led to an increasing demand for housing, particularly for low-income communities (MBR), amidst limited land availability. Vertical housing has emerged as a solution to optimize land use; however, its implementation often overlooks spatial quality, flexibility, and the social needs of residents. In addition, the increasingly dynamic urban lifestyle demands housing that can accommodate multiple activities within limited spaces. This design aims to formulate a vertical housing concept in Palembang City using an Adaptive Living Space approach that is flexible and responsive, based on human-centered architectural principles. The method employed is descriptive-qualitative, consisting of data collection, analysis, and design synthesis. This approach emphasizes spatial flexibility through multifunctional spaces, flexible partitions, and adaptive furniture that can respond to users' needs. The results indicate that the implementation of the Adaptive Living Space concept can improve spatial efficiency without compromising comfort. Furthermore, the provision of communal spaces and climate-responsive design strategies enhances social interaction and environmental comfort. Therefore, this design is expected to serve as an alternative solution for developing flexible, adaptive, and human-centered vertical housing for low-income communities in Palembang City.
