Abstract

The design of the Natural Special School (SLB) in Bolon using a behavioral architecture approach was motivated by the need for educational facilities that can optimally accommodate the characteristics of children with special needs. The concept of the Natural SLB is implemented through the use of natural lighting, cross ventilation, green open spaces, healing gardens, sensory gardens, and outdoor classrooms as learning and therapy media. The behavioral architecture approach is realized through clear zoning arrangements, noise control, the use of calming colors, and the provision of a calming room to support student emotional regulation. The design method includes literature studies, field observations, data analysis, and design synthesis. The design results in an educational area that is integrated with nature, has easy-to-understand circulation, flexible learning spaces, and therapy facilities that support student independence. This design is expected to produce an inclusive, therapeutic, and sustainable educational environment for children with special needs.
