Abstract
This study aims to analyze the role of the Surakarta Police in uncovering criminal acts of domestic violence, particularly the involvement of the Surakarta Police in identifying cases of death caused by domestic violence against wives, as well as the legal implications and regulatory aspects of domestic violence against wives within the context of Law Number 23 of 2004 and Islamic law. The increasing number of domestic violence cases against wives in Indonesia, along with the severe physical and mental health impacts on victims and the resulting deaths, forms the background of this study. This research employs an empirical legal research method within a qualitative approach, consisting of law enforcement interviews and literature review. The findings show a broad spectrum of involvement by the Surakarta Police, supported by law enforcement mechanisms in handling death cases resulting from domestic violence against wives, ranging from investigation, evidence collection and verification, to systematic case coordination in accordance with the law. The Surakarta Police face domestic violence cases as a systemic issue. The applicable regional regulations and situational domestic violence regulations, along with domestic violence law and regulations concerning situational violence, provide a sufficient legal basis for controlling and addressing domestic violence cases. Strengthening the control of domestic violence and the enforcement of domestic violence law by the Surakarta Police is highly necessary.
