Abstract
The revitalization of abandoned areas is a strategic approach to restoring the function and value of a site in order to regain its social, economic, and cultural vitality. Bali Festival Park, located in the coastal area of Padang Galak, Denpasar City, is one such site that has experienced functional decline since the Asian economic crisis in 1998, resulting in severe physical degradation and loss of activity. However, the area still holds significant potential as a public space and a platform for creative community activities. This study aims to design the revitalization of Bali Festival Park as a Living Balinese Creative Community Hub that accommodates collaborative activities of creative communities while integrating local Balinese cultural values into architectural design. The research employs a qualitative approach through literature review, precedent studies, and field observations to identify the potentials, constraints, and characteristics of the coastal environment of Padang Galak. The design concept is based on an adaptive reuse approach by preserving existing structures and integrating them with new functions as creative spaces. In addition, the Living Balinese concept is applied by incorporating cultural values such as Tri Hita Karana and Tri Mandala into spatial organization and activity patterns. Principles of tropical coastal architecture are also implemented through natural ventilation strategies, building orientation, and the use of materials resistant to coastal environmental conditions. The design outcome results in a spatial concept consisting of collaborative spaces, educational facilities, galleries, performance areas, and public spaces integrated with the coastal landscape. This revitalization is expected to reactivate Bali Festival Park as a productive and sustainable creative hub while reinforcing its local cultural identity.
