Abstract
A picohydro power plant (PLTPH) is a renewable energy technology that utilizes low-flow water to generate electricity with a power output of less than 5 kW. This system is suitable for implementation in irrigation canals or rivers with low flow rates. The Archimedes screw turbine is a suitable choice for this application, as it can operate effectively under conditions of low flow and low hydraulic head. This study aimed to design and evaluate the performance of a picohydro system using an Archimedes screw turbine at three different shaft inclination angles: 10°, 20°, and 30°. The research was conducted in an irrigation canal, utilizing the water flow to drive the turbine. The system comprised an Archimedes screw turbine, a permanent magnet generator, a pulley and V-belt transmission, a solar charge controller (SCC), a battery. The data collected included voltage, current, and power at the generator, battery, and load. Test results indicated that at an inclination angle of 10°, the average generator output was 7.31 V, 0.78 A, and 5.70 W. At an angle of 20°, the average values increased to 8.72 V, 0.85 A, and 7.40 W. Meanwhile, the best performance was achieved at an angle of 30°, yielding an average voltage of 10.75 V, current of 0.77 A, and power of 8.22 W. Based on these results, it can be concluded that increasing the turbine's inclination angle leads to higher voltage, current, and power output. Therefore, the 30° inclination angle represents the optimal configuration for the designed picohydro system.
