Abstract
This study formulates the urgency of designing a Mental Health Rehabilitation Center in Sragen Regency as a critical response to structural gaps in mental health services in Indonesia, particularly for People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ), who continue to experience marginalization, stigma, and limited access to proper and humane rehabilitation facilities. The high prevalence of mental health disorders, which is not matched by an equitable distribution of services, combined with treatment practices that remain predominantly curative and institution-oriented, reflects a systemic failure in fulfilling mental health rights as part of social justice. In the regional context, Sragen Regency faces spatial challenges characterized by a wide distribution of ODGJ cases without adequate support from comprehensive rehabilitation facilities. This condition increases dependence on referrals to external regions and distances patients from their immediate social support systems. Therefore, the healing architecture approach is proposed as an architectural strategy that is not merely aesthetic but transformative, through the creation of a restorative therapeutic environment based on the integration of nature, social interaction, and rehabilitative activities that support holistic psychological recovery. This design aims to produce a rehabilitation center concept that addresses not only the medical needs but also the social and emotional needs of individuals with mental disorders. Furthermore, it aspires to serve as a model for mental health facilities that are more inclusive, humane, and contextually responsive to local conditions, thereby contributing to the reform of mental health care paradigms at both regional and national levels.
