Abstract
The national tea industry faces serious challenges, marked by a consistent decline in plantation area and production volume due to land conversion and a shortage of labor. Per capita domestic tea consumption has also dropped sharply, influenced by changing consumption patterns among the younger generation—who are switching to other beverages—and a lack of innovation in tea products. In the Ciwidey area, despite its potential for educational tourism based on tea plantation landscapes, this potential has not been fully utilized; therefore, innovative and educational facilities are needed to enhance the area’s appeal. The objective of this design is to create the Teascape Experience Center in the Ciwidey area as an integrated facility that combines educational, recreational, and tourism experiences based on tea plantation landscapes. Additionally, this design aims to create a tourism facility using a contextual architectural approach that harmonizes with the landscape conditions, natural environment, and surrounding character. The method used is descriptive-analytical, encompassing literature review, field observation, and data analysis to formulate the design concept. A contextual architectural design approach is applied, emphasizing harmony between the building and its surroundings—physically, visually, and culturally. The design concept integrates zones for education, recreation, and collaboration, utilizing local materials such as bamboo, wood, and natural stone, and adapting the roof shape of the traditional Julang Ngapak house to respond to the local climate. The design also incorporates principles of Islamic architecture, encompassing relationships with God, fellow humans, and nature. The design of the Teascape Experience Center is intended to serve as a transformative strategy for preserving tea as a commodity, strengthening local identity, and facilitating sustainable educational experiences.
