Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between gratitude and life satisfaction among inmates at Rutan Kelas IIB Boyolali and to identify differences in life satisfaction based on the length of incarceration. This study employed a quantitative approach with correlational and comparative research designs. The participants consisted of 116 inmates who had served a minimum detention period of 3 months. The instruments used in this study were the Gratitude Questionnaire-6 (GQ-6) and the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS). Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation and Kruskal-Wallis tests. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between gratitude and life satisfaction (rs=0.069; p=0.465). In addition, there was no significant difference in life satisfaction based on the category of length of incarceration (χ2=0.942; p=0.624). The findings indicate that gratitude among inmates functions more as a form of self-acceptance and a psychological coping strategy during incarceration rather than as a factor that directly enhances life satisfaction. This study is expected to provide consideration for the development of psychological rehabilitation programs in correctional institutions.
