Abstract
Access to affordable medical monitoring devices remains a significant challenge in developing countries, where high costs of standard clinical equipment hinder early detection and continuous patient care. Advances in sensor technology and the Internet of Things have created opportunities to develop low-cost alternatives capable of measuring vital signs with clinically acceptable accuracy. This study evaluates three affordable sensors, namely MPX5050DP for blood pressure, MLX90614 for body temperature, and GY-MAX30102 for heart rate and oxygen saturation, integrated into a single ESP32-based monitoring system. Each sensor was calibrated against certified medical devices before testing was conducted under controlled laboratory conditions involving five healthy respondents with three measurement repetitions per parameter. Results showed that all sensors produced readings closely aligned with standard medical instruments, with no statistically significant difference found between sensor and reference device measurements. All parameters met the accuracy thresholds defined by applicable international medical device standards, and all sensors demonstrated high internal consistency across repeated measurements. These findings confirm that the integrated sensor system is feasible as a reliable, low-cost vital sign monitoring device with strong potential for deployment in primary healthcare facilities and IoT-based telemedicine applications, particularly in resource-limited settings.
