Abstract

This research aims to design and implement a smart locker prototype based on the ESP32-S3 microcontroller with layered authentication combining PIN, OTP (One Time Password), and QR code/barcode along with a web-based interface to improve security and ease of access in public areas. The hardware consists of an ESP32-S3 module, solenoid door lock, relay, 4x4 matrix keypad, and TFT screen, while the software is developed on a web server accessible via smartphone. The system runs two main functions, namely item storage and item retrieval. Users store items by scanning the QR code on the locker door, filling in personal data on the web to obtain an OTP, then entering the code via keypad and pressing # to confirm so the locker opens automatically. For item retrieval, users scan the QR code again, enter their registered phone number, and press D to close and lock the locker after retrieving items. Test results showed excellent performance, with web interface testing achieving 98,33%, physical device testing 98,85%, item storage process 99.17%, item retrieval process 99.61%, and RFID reading 80%. The system ran stably without critical failures and is suitable for implementation in public areas such as campuses, stations, and other public facilities.
