Abstract

The horticultural sector requires an efficient irrigation system to increase plant productivity without wasting water and energy. This research focuses on the development of an automatic irrigation system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) by utilizing solar energy as the main source. The method used is a prototyping approach through the stages of design, manufacture, and direct system testing. The system is designed using a 100 Wp solar panel, a soil moisture sensor as the main watering parameter, a flow sensor to measure water volume, an INA219 sensor to monitor pump energy consumption, and a PZEM-017 sensor to measure electrical parameters from the solar panel. Data is processed by ESP32 and displayed in real-time via LCD and the Blynk application. The test results show that, the system can operate stably and shows a good level of sensor accuracy, this is indicated by the average display error of the flow sensor in the range of 0.15% and the PZEM-017 sensor below 1%. The energy generated by the solar panel during the test reached 81,36 Wh and can be used to meet the pump's needs. The pump's energy consumption in automatic mode was recorded at 5.31 Wh, while in manual mode it reached 8,63 Wh. In terms of water usage, the automatic mode only used 79.4 liters, significantly lower than the manual mode's 144,8 liters. This indicates that the automated system can significantly improve water and energy efficiency. Overall, the developed system performed well and demonstrated optimal energy utilization to support a more efficient and sustainable irrigation system. 3 Keywords: Automatic Irrigation, IoT, Solar Energy, Horticulture, Water Efficiency, Energy Efficiency.
