Abstract

This study aims to examine and analyze the effects of QRIS usage, self-control, active social media use, and passive social media use on impulse buying. The population of this study focuses on Muslim college students, considering the importance of understanding how the values of rationality and religiosity interact with the modernization of financial and digital ecosystems. This study employs a quantitative method with data analysis using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach via SPSS-AMOS software. The hypothesis testing results reveal an interesting theoretical contradiction regarding the technology variable. QRIS usage is found to have a significant negative effect on the impulse buying intention of Muslim college students. This indicates that financial transparency and real-time transaction history tracking features on QRIS stimulate transactional cautiousness rather than triggering temporary emotional gratification. Furthermore, self-control potentially increases shopping vulnerability when its capacity weakens, whereas active social media use is proven to have a significant positive effect as an accelerator of shopping urges. Conversely, passive social media use significantly reduces impulse buying intention as passive activities minimize consumers' emotional stimulation. This study demonstrates that the adoption of payment technology and social media among Muslim college students fosters economic behavior adaptation that is smarter, more measured, and rational.
