Abstract
Poverty remains a major challenge to development in Indonesia, primarily due to limited access to education, health care, and decent employment. Women are often absorbed in the informal sector with low wages, thus limiting their contribution to family welfare. This study aims to analyze the effect of the quality of female labor force participation on the number of poor people in 10 provinces in Indonesia with the highest number of poor people in the 2019–2024 period. Using a quantitative approach with panel data of 60 observations. Independent variables include the Human Development Index (HDI), the female labor force participation rate (TPAKP), and female professional workers (PROFESP), with control variables in the form of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and the Gini Ratio. Based on the regression results using the Chow Test and the Hausman Test, the selected model estimation is the Fixed Effect Model (FEM). The research findings indicate that the HDI has a significant negative effect on the number of poor people; TPAKP has a significant positive effect; while PROFESP has a significant negative effect. This confirms that the quality of women's professions is more decisive than simply high female labor force participation in reducing the number of poor people. Therefore, this study demonstrates that poverty reduction cannot be achieved solely through quantitative increases in women's labor force participation. It also requires improvements in the quality of human resources through education, health, and skills. Furthermore, policies that encourage expanded women's access to the formal sector are also needed.
