Abstract
his study aims to determine the effect of social support and self-confidence simultaneously and partially on achievement motivation of public and private high school students in Sukoharjo Regency. The study involved 330 grade XI students: 166 from public high schools (SMAN 2 and SMAN 3 Sukoharjo) and 164 from private high schools (SMA Muhammadiyah 1 and SMA Veteran 1 Sukoharjo). A quantitative correlational design with multiple linear regression analysis was employed. Data were collected via a Google Form psychological scale questionnaire. In public high school students, social support and self-confidence had a significant simultaneous effect (F = 31.72; p < 0.001); partially, social support contributed 3.3% (p = 0.049) and self-confidence 24.96% (p < 0.001), with peers as the strongest support source (r = 0.29). In private high school students, both variables also had a simultaneous effect (F = 35.44; p < 0.001); partially, social support contributed 7.77% (p = 0.003) and self-confidence 22.88% (p < 0.001), with family as the strongest source (r = 0.27). In conclusion, the combination of internal (self-confidence) and external (social support) factors proved to be important determinants of student achievement motivation.
