Abstract
Forest and land fires in South Sumatra are an environmental issue that impacts ecosystem damage and public health. Companies operating in the forestry sector in Indonesia are often in the spotlight on this issue, including APP Indonesia. This situation is interesting because the media contributes to shaping the reality of its reporting through its perspective. Using Robert Entman's framing analysis approach, this study attempts to examine how the mass media framed the issue of forest and land fires following the lawsuit filed against three APP concession companies. Qualitative analysis was used to analyze news from detikSumbagsel and Tempo.co. Eight news articles were analyzed to identify the framing used by both media outlets. The results of this study highlight the information gap between the two media outlets. Tempo.co highlights the forest fires in South Sumatra as a structural environmental issue and emphasizes the community's losses due to the disaster and advocates for community rights and corporate responsibilities under the law. detikSumbagsel constructs the company as a solution to the threat of forest and land fires through preparedness of the company, government, and community with adequate education and technology. The lack of response from APP Indonesia poses a risk to the company's reputation.
