Abstract

Illegal street racing is a social phenomenon that is currently rampant in Karanganyar Regency, Central Java, Indonesia, which can cause traffic accidents, damage to public facilities, and disturbances to public order. This study aims to analyze countermeasures through repressive and preventive efforts. Using a qualitative approach with empirical juridical methods, data was collected through in-depth interviews with police officers, field observations at vulnerable points such as Jalan Lawu Karanganyar and the Kebakkramat area, and analysis of legal documents such as Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation and the Karanganyar Regency Regulation concerning Public Order. The results of the study show that the legal efforts carried out by the Karanganyar Police Department are preventive efforts, namely community participation and traffic safety socialization, as well as repressive in nature, such as police raids and administrative sanctions. The recommendations of this study are collaborative efforts through coordination between communities, including the establishment of community monitoring posts, socialization in schools, and the provision of facilities in the form of official racing circuits.
