Abstract
This study aims to analyze communication accommodation between Javanese and Sundanese students at Daarul ‘Uluum Lido Modern Islamic Boarding School. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method using Communication Accommodation Theory to examine the process of communication adjustment that occurs in interethnic interactions within the pesantren environment. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving six students from the Javanese ethnic group selected using purposive sampling. The data were then analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis to understand the forms of social interaction among the students.The results show that social interaction between Javanese and Sundanese students occurs adaptively through convergence and divergence strategies in communication. Convergence is reflected in the use of Indonesian as a unifying language, adjustment of accents or speech styles during communication, and active participation in various pesantren activities. Meanwhile, divergence occurs when students maintain the use of their local languages or certain cultural identities as a way of preserving their ethnic identity. Despite differences in cultural backgrounds, social interaction among students continues to run well due to the values of togetherness and tolerance developed in the pesantren environment.
