Abstract
The phenomenon of student burnout in tahfidz (Qur’an memorization) learning has become an increasingly prominent issue, particularly amid academic demands and high memorization targets. This condition has the potential to hinder the process of memorizing the Qur’an and reduce the overall quality of learning. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of student burnout in tahfidz learning at MTs Negeri 2 Sukoharjo, identify its contributing factors and impacts, and examine the efforts made to address it. This study employs a qualitative approach with a field research type and a phenomenological design. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews with tahfidz teachers and students, and documentation. Data analysis is conducted through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that student burnout in tahfidz learning is influenced by internal and external factors. Internal factors include physical and mental fatigue, low motivation, negative perceptions of the difficulty of memorization, and lack of self-confidence. External factors include a heavy school workload, pressure from memorization targets, monotonous teaching methods, peer influence, and limited parental support. The burnout phenomenon encompasses three dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment. Burnout impacts include delays in achieving memorization targets, decreased consistency in recitation submission and review (muroja’ah), low learning motivation, increased psychological pressure, and stagnation in memorization progress. Efforts to address burnout include teachers’ emotional support, structured discipline, individualized motivation, varied memorization strategies, positive reinforcement, and parental support as a form of social coping. Thus, addressing burnout requires collaboration among teachers, students, and parents to ensure optimal tahfidz learning.
