Abstract

The development of social media, particularly Instagram, has transformed the way society acquires news and information, making audience trust in information sources a crucial factor amidst the widespread dissemination of hoaxes. Instagram is no longer utilized solely as a platform for entertainment but has also evolved into a medium for delivering news information, including through the Instagram account @folkative, which is widely recognized for presenting concise and easily digestible content for Generation Z. This study aims to measure the level of trust among followers toward the news information presented on the @folkative Instagram account and to analyze the influence of account credibility on followers' trust levels. This research employs a quantitative approach with both descriptive and explanatory research types. Data were obtained through the distribution of a questionnaire using a Likert scale to 100 respondents who met the research criteria, namely followers of @folkative, aged 17–28 years, and active Instagram users. The sampling technique applied in this study was non-probability sampling using the purposive sampling method. The data were subsequently analyzed using descriptive analysis and simple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS software. The results of the study indicate that the level of trust among followers toward news information on the @folkative Instagram account falls into the high category, as observed through positive perceptions regarding the aspects of accuracy, objectivity, and consistency of information. The explanatory analysis reveals a very strong relationship between source credibility and followers' trust levels, as indicated by a correlation coefficient value of 0.910. The simple linear regression equation obtained is Y = 1.889 + 0.906X, while the coefficient of determination indicates that 82.7% of the variation in followers' trust levels can be explained by the credibility of the @folkative Instagram account. Therefore, it can be concluded that account credibility constitutes a primary factor in shaping audience trust in news information on social media.
