Abstract

Timely completion of studies is a key indicator in assessing students’ commitment, discipline, and responsibility toward their academic obligations. However, in practice, many students still experience delays in their studies due to various factors, both internal and external. This situation underscores the importance of peer support and self-motivation in encouraging students to complete their studies on time. This study aims to analyze the influence of peer support and self-motivation on the timely completion of studies as a form of students’ academic responsibility. This study employs a quantitative method with a correlational design, as well as proportional random sampling. The study population consisted of 1,242 individuals, while the sample comprised 139 students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at UMS. The results indicated that the calculated t-value for peer support was 1.685 < the critical t-value of 1.977, meaning peer support does not have a positive relationship (H1 is rejected). The contribution size was 2%. Conversely, self-motivation has a positive influence on the timeliness of study completion, with a calculated t-value of 9.273 > the critical t-value of 1.977, so H2 is accepted. The magnitude of the contribution is 39%. The F-test indicates that peer support and self-motivation have a positive effect on the timeliness of study completion, with the calculated F-value of 46.362 exceeding the critical F-value of 3.06. This means that H3 is accepted, indicating that these two independent variables jointly influence the timeliness of study completion. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that internal factors, namely students’ intrinsic motivation, are the primary determinants of timely completion of studies, while the external factor of peer support acts as a reinforcing factor. Thus, efforts to improve the timeliness of studies should not only focus on formal academic aspects but also on strengthening intrinsic motivation and creating a supportive social environment. This study is expected to serve as a reference for educational institutions in designing student development strategies to enhance academic responsibility and on-time graduation rates.
