Abstract
The film “How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies” follows the story of M when he moves into his grandmother's house, Amah, and develops a genuine relationship with his grandmother. The film portrays the contrast of communication patterns in families depending on the situation and conditions. This study aims to examine how film "How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies" depicts affection between grandparents and grandchildren through evolving family communication patterns. The research method used is qualitative research with Roland Barthes' semiotic approach which consists of signifier, signified, denotation, connotation and myth. The findings reveal a transition in family communication patterns, shifting from a protective to a pluralistic and consensual form in the interaction between M and Amah. Expressions of affection (verbal, nonverbal, or behavioral practices) are evident across these patterns. The research conclude that the elements of consensual comm unication remain evident, particularly in their continued adherence to Buddhist rituals and traditions embedded within the Thai-Chinese cultural framework that shapes the film's narrative.
