Abstract

This study aims to examine the position of productive waqf as an instrument within Islamic economic law and its relevance to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesia. It analyzes the concept and implementation of productive waqf management and seeks to broaden understanding of how productive waqf can more effectively encourage public contribution toward sustainable development goals. The theoretical framework is grounded in Islamic philanthropy theory, which views productive waqf as a social instrument for prosperity, and sustainable development theory, which is used to explore the contribution of productive waqf to the achievement of the SDGs. The study also considers the regulatory and managerial challenges of waqf administration in Indonesia from legal, economic, and social perspectives in order to optimize its potential. This research employs a qualitative method with a literature review approach. Data were collected through the review of journal articles and relevant reports on productive waqf and the SDGs. The discussion focuses on identifying key concepts and challenges in waqf management and presenting recommendations for future development. The findings indicate that productive waqf has significant potential to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs in Indonesia, particularly in the areas of health, education, and MSME development. However, several challenges remain, including limited public understanding, weak regulation, and suboptimal management practices. Therefore, greater transparency and regulatory consolidation are needed to ensure sustainability. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on productive waqf as a solution to waqf management challenges while examining its role in achieving the SDGs in Indonesia and strengthening insights into the use of waqf within a sustainable economic framework
