Abstract
The growth of wild grass in agricultural land can disrupt crop productivity and complicate land maintenance. A solar-powered grass-cutting machine becomes an innovative solution to address this issue by utilizing environmentally friendly renewable energy. This research aims to design and build a grass-cutting machine that uses solar panels as its primary energy source, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and lowering operational costs. The design process includes developing the mechanical cutting system, installing the solar panel, using an electric motor as the main driver, and implementing an energy storage system with a battery. The machine operates by converting solar energy into electrical energy stored in the battery to power the cutting motor, supported by a charge controller to optimize charging and prevent overcharging. A lightweight and corrosion-resistant frame is used to ensure durability and mobility across various terrains. Testing was conducted to evaluate energy efficiency, cutting performance, and system durability under various field conditions. The design results show that the required DC motor power is 6,15 watts, the needed battery capacity is 20 Ah, and the appropriate solar panel size is 50 Wp. With a blade length of 0,426 m, a diameter of 0,254 m, and an assumed grass height of 0,05 m, the cutting volume achieved is 0,0021 m³. By utilizing solar energy, this machine offers a cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and efficient solution for farmers, and it is expected to enhance work efficiency while supporting the adoption of renewable energy technologies in agriculture.
