Abstract
Introduction: The aging process in older adults leads to a decline in the function of tissues, body systems, and organs, particularly the musculoskeletal system. This decline in tissue function affects the ability to maintain balance, especially dynamic balance. Low levels of attention to physical activity among older adults may accelerate balance deterioration, increase the risk of falls, and lead to dependency in daily activities. Physical activity is one of the internal factors that plays an important role in maintaining body balance. Objective: To determine the relationship between physical activity and dynamic balance in older adults. Methods: This study used an observational design with a cross sectional approach. Physical activity was assessed using the Indonesian version of the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE-INA), while dynamic balance was measured using the Berg Balance Scale (BBS). Results: The analysis showed a significant positive correlation between physical activity and dynamic balance in older adults (r=0.661; p<0.001). Physical activity was found to contribute 33.1% to the variation in dynamic balance ability. Conclusion: Physical activity has a positive and significant relationship with dynamic balance in older adults. However, the contribution of physical activity does not fully explain the variation in dynamic balance, suggesting the influence of other factors beyond the variables studied.
