Abstract
Traditional markets serve as centers of economic, social, and cultural activities that play an important role in supporting the local economy. However, the rapid development of modern shopping centers and changes in consumer behavior have caused many traditional markets to experience a decline in physical quality, comfort, and competitiveness. Kadipaten Traditional Market in Majalengka Regency occupies a strategic location but faces various challenges, including disorganized circulation, traffic congestion, limited parking space, inadequate kiosk and stall conditions, and the suboptimal implementation of accessibility and sustainability principles. This project aims to redesign Kadipaten Traditional Market as a “Pasar Juara” (Champion Market) in accordance with the West Java Provincial Government program through an inclusive and sustainable Neo Vernacular architectural approach. The Neo-Vernacular approach is applied by adapting local architectural elements of Majalengka into a design that responds to contemporary needs without eliminating cultural identity. Inclusivity is realized through the application of universal design principles that accommodate all users, including persons with disabilities, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups. Sustainability principles are implemented through the optimization of natural lighting and ventilation, rainwater management, proper drainage systems, the use of environmentally friendly materials, and the provision of green open spaces. The methods employed include literature studies, field observations, and interviews to obtain comprehensive data. The design outcomes consist of a more efficient site layout, structured spatial zoning, improved circulation systems, innovative facilities such as a drive-thru system, and a strengthened façade character reflecting local identity. This redesign is expected to enhance the market’s physical quality and image, strengthen the local economy, and create a comfortable, safe, competitive, and sustainable market in accordance with SNI 8152:2015 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030.
