Abstract

News discourse as a medium for conveying public information often contains elements of foreign languages integrated into Indonesian. This phenomenon of language integration is often found in news reports on food security related to national policies and programs. This study examines the forms and causes of language integration and its use in Indonesian language learning. This study aims to describe the types of language integration, the causes of language integration, and the use of language integration in the news discourse on food security in the 2025 edition of the Solopos newspaper as teaching material for class X high school news texts. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with a case study design. Data in the form of sentences in the news discourse on food security containing language integration, were collected through listening and note-taking techniques, and analyzed using the referential matching method. The results of the study indicate that there are three types of language integration, namely visual integration, direct translation integration, and concept translation integration. Visual integration is the dominant type. The causes of language integration are influenced by the similarity of the linguistic system, the urgency of using foreign terms in public policy, and the adaptive language attitude of the speakers. The language integration in the food security news discourse of the 2025 edition of the Solopos newspaper is relevant to be used as teaching material for class X SMA news texts because it can help students understand the information on news elements and know the types of language integration well.
