Abstract

Sobokerto Village, located in Ngemplak District, Boyolali Regency, has significant natural and social potential to be developed as an ecotourism area. The site, covering approximately 2.6 hectares of village-owned land near Cengklik Reservoir, has not yet been optimally utilized to improve the welfare of local communities. This research aims to design a sustainable ecotourism area through a Sustainable Tourism approach, integrating ecological, social, and economic aspects into a unified spatial system. The research applies a descriptive qualitative method through field observation, interviews with local residents, and literature reviews related to ecotourism and sustainable architectural design. The site analysis includes environmental potential, land use, and community activities to formulate a contextual spatial concept. The design result proposes four primary zones: entrance area, education and recreation zone, accommodation zone, and conservation zone. The architectural concept emphasizes energy efficiency, local material utilization, and natural water–vegetation management to maintain ecological balance. In conclusion, the application of Sustainable Architecture principles in the Sobokerto ecotourism area creates a design that functions not only as a tourist destination but also as an environmental education platform and a community empowerment tool. This area is expected to become a model of sustainable rural tourism development in Boyolali Regency.
