Abstract

The lexical meaning of the names of traditional Nusantara clothing is studied based on the Big Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI) as a standard reference for meaning. This research is motivated by the diversity of traditional Nusantara clothing whose names contain important linguistic meanings to be understood systematically, but has not been widely studied through a lexical semantic approach. This study aims to identify the names of traditional Nusantara clothing and describe the lexical meanings contained therein based on the KBBI, while also reviewing their use as Indonesian language teaching materials for grade X SMA in accordance with the Learning Outcomes of Phase E of the Independent Curriculum. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. The research data are in the form of words and phrases that indicate the names of traditional Nusantara clothing obtained through documentation techniques from online sources. Data analysis was carried out by identifying and explaining the lexical meaning of each name of traditional clothing based on the definition in the KBBI. The results show that the names of traditional Nusantara clothing have lexical meanings related to the type of clothing, the body parts covered, shape, material, and how to wear it. This lexical meaning provides objective and systematic clarity of word meaning without involving symbolic interpretation or contextual meaning. Thus, the study of the lexical meaning of the names of traditional Indonesian clothing is relevant for use as Indonesian language teaching materials to support vocabulary understanding and introduce the nation's culture.
